We face a highly dynamic, uncertain, and at times an incomprehensible world. The events of 2020 have shown us how quickly and dramatically our lives can be affected by the complex nature of our reality. The thinking and decision-making that worked well for a more predictable past are no longer effective in navigating the rapidly emerging future. There is an urgent need for broader and more diverse thinking derived from the science of complexity. New patterns of thought, sense-making, and tools are needed to help guide us through today’s complex challenges. Cynefin® is the ideal framework designed specifically for complex environments.

The Cynefin® framework supports planning, decision-making, and management across a range of environments with differing levels of uncertainty. It has been adopted and applied in both the public and private sectors. In our current disrupted reality, Cynefin® has stood out as a framework that provides the right level of guidance for those seeking practical, hands-on support in business, government, and a personal sense of the current state of affairs.

Virtual Cynefin® Foundations training delivers a comprehensive introduction to Cynefin, and a core set of related methods. With uniquely designed practice exercises, wrapped in a highly engaging virtual learning environment, this course is a “must do” learning opportunity for those new to complexity and Cynefin®. For those who are well-read and well-studied in Cynefin® but want to refresh their knowledge, this course offers an ideal opportunity to engage with others in learning about Cynefin practices in today’s environment.



  • Four ½ day virtually facilitated sessions with each session having a runtime (including breaks) of 4 hours.

Participants will develop hands-on experience in applying Cynefin across a range of applications including –

(1) organisational change and transformation,

(2) improved decision-making, and

(3) creating conditions for innovation, organisational resilience, and leadership effectiveness.

This virtual course offers an enhanced interactive virtual learning environment, where a cohort of attendees from diverse backgrounds, embark on a learning journey about how to apply Cynefin® and related methods in their organizations.


This course is designed for people who work in constantly-evolving, dynamic situations, dealing daily with uncertainty and risk, and looking for an enhanced compass for building organisations that are both resilient and innovative. Whether you work in an organisation navigating intractable problems or are a consultant looking to include complexity principles into your practice – or if you are simply complexity-curious – this Virtual Cynefin® Practitioner Foundations class is for you.


Daniel Walsh – Authorized Cynefin® Trainer

Daniel brings more than 20 years of engineering and product development experience. Prior to founding nuCognitive and FiveWhyz, he was an engineering manager, Accelerated Leadership Program Associate, and a senior product development consultant at Intel Corp. He has worked in areas as varied as product and process development, sales, marketing, strategic planning, and talent recruiting. Most recently, Daniel led and coached transformation efforts of diverse groups including hardware development, product validation, software development, and internal startups. Over the years, he has developed heuristics for successful, sustainable transformations that scale.

Daniel is a graduate of MIT’s Leaders for Global Operations program where he received an M.S. in Engineering Systems and an M.B.A. from the Sloan School of Business. He has dedicated his career to developing new products and services and bringing them to market. His current areas of focus include organizational transformations, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, solutions thinking, digital transformation, and applied complex adaptive systems theory.

Refunds will be processed within ten (10) business days of refund requests. Substitutions are permitted at any time as well as rescheduling attendance to an alternate session within a year of the original course start date.
