Mavericks and accidents, not experts, are responsible for many advances in society and organisations – the Longitude video

Today Cognitive Edge is happy to present the fourth of a series of short videos introducing key aspects of our methods and tools, produced in collaboration with Cognia.

The fourth video to be released is Longitude and can be found in our new Videos section.

Mavericks and accidents, not experts, are responsible for many advances in society and organisations. In this video, Dave Snowden warns that in complex situations, experts can fall victim to their own thinking, and fail to see innovative solutions to novel problems. This idea is illustrated using the story of the discovery of Longitude. In addition to posting to our site, we've also posted a version of this video to YouTube.

We've been working with Mike Carroll from Cognia in Australia to produce these videos, leveraging Mike's 20+ years of experience in film and TV. Mike's been a member of the Cognitive Edge Network since July 2008. More videos produced through this collaboration are coming and will be announced here!
