The thrill of the occasional earthquake?
(Of course, having chosen to live in Seattle my opinion doesn't count for much when it comes to commenting on earthquake prone areas.)
As an LA native it isn't bad if you can live by the beach (which is unaffordable for most) where the winds keep it cool and smog free, or on a hill above the smog (which will burn in the summer or get drenched and slide down in the winter). I left LA in 1973 and ended up in the Pacific NW the New Zealand of the Northern Hemisphere and won't go back.

Oddly, LA is much nicer than anyone can imagine. Basically it's many villages strung together - not such a bad city model in many ways -

Because they're nuts? I can't stand LA, sorry to any LA'ers reading this comment. They should live here instead - beautiful NZ!
