A quick day trip to Seattle today to meet with our patent lawyers (I still surprise myself every time I say that). I got the light rail out to San Jose Airport, then the new light rail in Seattle. The first cost me $2.00, the second $2.5 for fast journey times comparable with Heathrow to Central London which costs ten times that amount. Travel time comparable with a taxi in both cases as well. Public transport should be around this sort of cost if we are to make any inroads into reducing traffic. Thanks also to Google for providing free wifi at San Jose and Seattle airports for the holiday season.

The new Skytrain from the Vancouver airport to downtown Vancouver is one of the best of this kind that I have experienced anywhere in the world (at least anywhere I have been).
My return trip from San Jose yesterday was made just bearable by the sheer efficiency and effectiveness of the last 10 kilometre leg from YVR to a stop a mere two blocks from my home. 20 minutes from boarding at YVR to the center of the city.
I also find the line fronm Schiphol into Centraal Station in Amsterdam to be excellent.
London and Paris are not bad .. they probaby deserve consideration because those routes have been in place for so very long.
