Return of the scare-cars

P9130096.JPG The scare-cars are back. Readers may remember the competition organised by the local schools here in the Kennet Valley to create a novel form of traffic calming. I posted at the time, with examples here. I've added some of the better ones below, and you can see the full set on the flickr link to the left of the main page of this blog.

Views in the village remain mixed. Some like me love them. Aside from the while creativity angle, it uses the principle of novelty to gain attention, to make people aware that this community of Lockeridge contains human beings and is not just a rat run for people with sat navs but no human sense. Others think there are a distraction, likely to cause accidents as people look at them.
