The aesthetics of Ovis aries

Sheep.png Aside from dealing with Randist Libertarians and various disputes over the naming of anything to do with the British Isles, being a Wikipedia editor ends up being about 75% vandalism reversion. That includes a fair number of people who want to insert various obscenities on Wales and Welsh People in connection with sheep. Given that I thought I might show that aside from nurturing, sheering, killing and eating there are other (non-sexual) activities that can be carried out with sheep.

My thanks to Alicia Juarrero  (author of one of the best books on complexity) for this reference plus lunch, conversation and a lift to Dulles last Thursday. For those interested we talked about running a joint seminar in Washington DC, details here when settled, but any ideas, suggestions, proposals welcome.

Alan Byrne:

Never mind the sheep - what about that Irish team then! The only surprise was the Welsh actually had a chance to win it - now that really would be picking the pockets of the Irish players. How they managed to let Wales get so close - I can only put it down to the affinity between the two nations and an English referee.

Never mind only another 45 weeks before you get your chance again.

Alan, it was a close fought match between the two best northern hemisphere teams. I don't begrudge the Irish their second Grand Slam in a 100 years, we have after all had two in five years (and a few before then). However you might want to note that

  1. Wales were ahead at half time due to better defence and the Irish playing a Munster style to prevent quick release
  2. Henson moving to full back after Byrne's injury gave the Irish centres room to move for the first time
  3. Both Irish tries came from errors by the referee: failure to give a mark, and a knock on despite the welsh player not having touched the ball
  4. If Jones hadn't had a brainstorm and kicked directly into touch then O'Gara would not have got the drop goal
  5. if Hook had been on (Gatland changed his mind at the last minute) for the final 5 minutes than penalty would have gone over

So sorry I don't buy the surprise, it was a good game with neither side dominant, and either could have won. How we failed to score from Phillips and WIlliams breaks I will never understand.
