Language twists

Words are powerful things, and associating words in unusual ways is a powerful method of getting people to sit up and take notice. I was working today on the signifier set for the new Liverpool Slavery museum and as part of that I went through some the images. One of the things that most impressed my on my first visit, were three simple cards that are an outstanding example of association. I will let them speak for themselves.

Beautiful and horrible and strong. Moving. I can´t imagine it. I mean that real people with real faces and real feelings and real histories were really sold.

At first glance, I made a mistake with the subtitle of the last picture. Read ´thought´ instead of ´fought´.

Brave. Strong. Fought. Their faces. The texts.

Thank you.

Tim Kannegieter:

Note the alliteration used. Brought/Brave, Sold/Strong, Freed/Fought. This was one of Shakespeare's favourite techniques.

Stefan Pinter:

Thank you for beeing so alert.
