Its only been a few weeks since I was last in the US, but things change. Fingerprints of your index finger have been around for a bit, but now the sequence is more complex. Four fingers of your right hand, then the thumb and repeat the process with the left. Net result queue length doubled, and very little by way of interview. Border guards focused on new technology not questioning or probing. On a par with asking me every-time I come in to sign a form to say I don't intend to undertake terrorist activity. All the bio data in the world will not substitute for an alert human. I wonder what they will want next? Bodily fluids?

Yep...I talked about the 10 fingerprint on my blog but was hoping it may not happen. As you say, how on earth does this help when good questioning and alert border security staff trained in spotting something different, something worrying, something not quite right, something out of pattern could achieve far more. Bodily fluids next? I have no doubt.

Sounds like we believe we know your intent, we just need to authenticate your identity. Intelligence plays a role, but so do time-honored law enforcement techniques. Dangerous to assume we don't need those at the point of entry. I hope you're wrong, and we had the mind-scanner hooked up so questions were unnecessary...

US is the only country in the world that captures biodata at this level. Human scanning more effective, and easier ways to check identity. Its part of the blame culture, being seen to be tough on something is more important than being tough on it.
