The architecture of Power

Every time I come to Washington I am struck by the sense of confidence in the architecture of imperial capitals; Rome and London being the other examples.  There is a presence about power that is reflected in the physical structure of the environment

It's not the buildings. It's the official helicopters. Their constant buzzing of the city reminds you over and over that there are Really Important People (way more important than you) passing overhead.
