Oh when will they ever learn?

Stephen Holt of Boeing drew my attention to this blog which seeks to make blogging mandatory as a means of making tacit knowledge explicit.  One feels that we need a new verse to the famous sixties folk song from Peter, Paul & Mary.  Maybe this

Where has all the knowledge gone, long time passing?
Where has all the knowledge gone, long time ago
Where has all the knowledge gone?
Gone to information everybit
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh when will they ever learn?

Aside from the perpetuation of the myth of tacit-explicit knowledge conversion (more on this tomorrow), the idea of compulsion flies in the face of all theory and practice in social computing.  Its a classic; find something which is working, then ruin it by compulsion.  Flowers in the gun barrels time I think.

Sounds like Dr David Vaine's corporate flogging programme is starting to gain acceptance.
