When people talk about having testicular fortitude in respect of a female candidate for the Presidency of the United States you start to wonder what sort of world we are living in. Would an equivalent phrase relating to race be acceptable?

Interesting. I've never understood your displeasure with a person that is more liberal versus someone who, at least in the limited spectrum of US politics, is seen by many as being pretty close to being a Blue Dog. Or at least a War Democrat.

Well the blog does not take a position between the two Wayne its a more generic comment. However overall I prefer someone who was born a methodist to someone who became a baptist (I am summarising a complex set of arguments in a catch phrase). I also deeply mistrust populist demagogues however wonderful the words sound.

I confess I had not heard that Clinton had "testicular fortitude". What a simultaneously politically correct and politically incorrect epithet!
Then again, I have no idea whst a blue dog is either, so it's just as welll that I don't get to vote in this election ;o)

Karyn,
A Blue Dog is a descendant of the southern Democratic party, once called Yellow Dogs as it was said they would rather vote for a yellow dog than a Republican. They represent, in general, the southern, conservative wing of the Democratic party and as they are generally from conservative districts tend to be far less supportive of civil rights issues as well as being much more militarily inclined than more moderate to liberal members of the Democratic party.
The distinction may be subtle, but they quote their mission as "budgetary discipline and a strong national defense among the highest priorities of the U.S. House of Representatives." Given the US budget, where a HUGE amount is spent on defense, this seems to me to be inconsistent thinking. Oh well.
