Buy your "Atheist Minty Fresh T-Shirt" here

You don't defeat primitive superstitions such as creationism, by creating your own counter religion.  It rather defeats the point.  This site (thanks to Neurophilosophy for the link) illustrates my argument  Why should acceptance of science and in particular evolution require me to declare myself God-Free?  Atheism as a cult and Dawkins as its prophet ....

Dave,
I love how easy it is to get you excited about this topic!! Personally, I fear Dawkins FAR LESS than Pat Robertson and his drones. I just don't see much of a threat from Atheio-terror. Now, religious terror scares the crap out of me!

Bravo!

Dave - we must ban these evil T-shirts and society-threatening coffee mugs now!!!

Whilst I find the whole Dawkins/"brights" thing a embarrassing, calling "atheism" a cult is far-fetched. Atheists tend to love argument & verbal battle above all else. Which probably explains why you are so fascinated by them, Dave.

Wayne Zandbergen:

vanderleun,
Not sure who you are but maybe the issue is the we are both Hollanders whereas Dave is a Welshman? ;-)

Happy to agree with you on who to fear the most Wayne.
Matt - I don't think atheism is a cult any more than any Christian is a creationist. The point I was trying to make is that to link the two issues is foolish. The creationists the the religiously atheistic (such as Dawkins) seem to share a lot in common ....

Euan:

I've said it before and I'll say it again ...

"If atheism is a religion then not collecting stamps is a hobby..."

Dave Snowden [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Fully agree with you Euan, which is why I will continue to point out the absurdity of athesists adopting the forms and practices of religion (Dawkins even has testimonies on his web site, rather like a Baptist Chapel.

I disagree with Euan.
Atheism is a form of religion because it is about "believing that there is no God" (the ones who say "I'm certain there is no God" are even worse since they cannot prove it).
I much prefer the agnostic position that basically acknowledges the fact that we cannot prove either way that there is a God or not, and that until such a proof is made, life is to be lived without the need for a belief in either God or no God.
