Anticipation

I am sitting here in Starbucks on Cockle Bay in Sydney, anticipating an enjoyable dual (not duel) master class with Etienne Wenger followed by a short flight up the coast for the start up of an interesting project on indigenous education. I've been looking forward to the master class for some time as, while I disagree with Etienne on several points I have immense respect for the depth of his thinking. Australian audiences are always fun as well, they are not afraid to speak up!

While tomorrow is the anniversary of my first blog, the main object of today is to let you know of a Driving Business Growth Through Innovation Conference coming up this October. It has some interesting speakers, but also expect fireworks as I have profound disagreements with one of the speakers who I think has little or no understanding of complexity and who is propounding one of the approaches to innovation that I think is harmful. I will say no more, but it should be entertaining .......

Dave,

I was lucky enough to attend yesterday and thank you and Etienne for your insightful models and debate on aspects of communities and social networks.

While it was good to hear some of the "classic" Snowden stories and anecdotes it was refreshing to hear about some of the new things you have been doing and recent uses of the techniques.

I have suggested to the hosts to perhaps appoint an independant facilitator to manage the day as I know we did not get to cover what was planned but I guess that is what you get when you have a diversity of maturity of participants.

I eagerly await the podcast and links to resources you mentioned.

Thanks again and look forward to your next visit.

Dave,

The conference and workshop has inspired me to take a deep breath and try a few things differently.

I agree you don't have to spend significant amounts on enabling technology - and why should we when the best stuff is publicly available?

I have also "found" my first corporate blogger; it's funny, he was already blogging about his passion externally anyway ;)

Hello David,

I wish I did not have to leave the Masterclass on Wednesday but had a meeting that would not say "No"! Despite my absence, I was able to pick up quite a lot in the time I spent with Etienne, yourself and the other conference delegates. It was interesting to hear the latest thoughts that were presented at the KM Australia Conference and I could relate to many of the things you said about the future of KM and the Defence Lessons community to which I belong. If you're ever curious about some subtle ways we've deviated from the standard mechanical lessons model that many adopt, I'd be happy to discuss it. Thankfully, my staff and i have been given plenty of rope to try some fairly innovative approaches to sharing experiences and learning from them in a military context. Anyhow, thank you for sharing your thoughts and giving me another blog to play with! Its back to work for me now though - back in not-so-sunny Puckapunyal!
