Would you willingly drill a hole in your head?

Well in 1965 someone did, with an electric drill. It's now called Elective Trepanation. Neurophilosophy has produced a really interesting summary of the history of Trepanation. One of the oldest surgical techniques (it goes back to Neolithic times) it is also closely linked with aspects of Shamanism. In the modern day we have the idea of the Third eye and self-trepanation for mental improvement. I'm not sure if this is serious or not although aspects of it fall into the 2012 category. Either way its always fascinated me during my studies of shamans and this is a great overview so I thought I would share it
