If there is one thing worse than a speaker reading their slides (especially if they have 100 words per slide), its their using a laser pointer to show each word as they read it. You almost want to sing along .....

When this happens, I am only sympathetic if the presenter is speaking a language that is not his/her native tongue. In which case, I admire him/her -- but preferably from afar. I hope the content compensated for the delivery.

I think there is more of an excuse if the language is not their own - but it would still be better if they read from a script on the podium, with bullets. In this case the speaker was as you describe. I think it was the laser pointer that tipped me over the edge as managing that slowed them down to less than the reading speed of the audience.
