Cognitive Edge is focused on rejuvenating management practices to better equip organisations when addressing intractable problems or seizing new opportunities in uncertain and complex situations. Where traditional approaches have failed to deliver success, Cognitive Edge techniques enable the emergence of fresh and insightful solutions seen from multiple perspectives.

Cognitive Edge solutions, comprised of open source methods, original research and the Cognitive Edge SenseMaker™ Software Suite, are delivered through the Cognitive Edge Network. The Suite is fully integrated with a coherent body of formal methods is the outcome of several years of research into human based organizational complexity, sensemaking, decision making, knowledge sharing and narrative.

Title: A new perspective on cultural issues in organisations
Author: Dave Snowden
Details:

Culture is the patterning of our interactions with our environment and it is not susceptible to design principles appropriate to the creation of bridges and software programs, although it is susceptible to the design principles of a gardener or an architect.

It has however become the new bucket class into which anything involving human factors is deposited, on gets the blame for all unsuccessful activities, including the introduction of new technology, major re-engineering projects, mergers and acquisitions and the non-ethical behaviour of Directors or traders.

The significant differences between efficient (engineering) and effective (human) systems are identified as the basis for a new perspective on organisational culture.
